working house Greenwells Hill Lane House Fire - Leonardtown, MD

At 0829 hours on Sunday, Stations 1,7,6,9 Truck1, Squad 6, Water Supply 5 and EMS 19 and 79 were alerted for a working house fire. Chief 1 was on location at 0832 confirming working fire with heavy smoke conditions. Chief 1 performed a preliminary search of structure and confirmed with the residents all subjects were out of the apartments. Engine 11 arrived and pulled a 1 3/4” hand line to side Bravo to make an interior attack. Tanker 14 arrived and supplied Engine 11. Truck 1 performed ventilation. Engine 11’s crew stopped the fire in the hallway on side Brava causing the fire to then vent thru the roof and wall of sides Charlie, Delta. Engine 73 and Tanker 74’s crew pulled a 2nd hand line to side Alpha and a third hand line to side Delta. Engine 91 and Tanker 93’s crew pulled a fourth line from Engine 11 to side Charlie where the crews put a knock on the bulk of the fire. Squad 6 and Tanker 63’s crew took over the hand lines on side Bravo with all crews working to together to extinguish the fire. Fire was brought under control at 0910 hours. Chief 6 had operations of side Alpha and Bravo. Chief 1A had operations of side Charlie and Delta.
Tankers 74, 63 and 93 gave a constant supply of water to Tanker 14 thru out the incident. Water Supply 5 filled three tankers using approximately 7000 gallons of water. Ambulances 799 and 197 stood by and there no injuries or medical assistance required. SMECO secured the electric and the Fire Marshall conducted an investigation with preliminary findings to be related to an electrical heat lamp. Investigation is still on going. Red Cross was contacted to assist the victims. All units were in service at 1039 hours.

Leonardtown, MD-- On Jan.31 at 08:30 a.m., multiple volunteer fire departments responded to Greenwell Hill Lane, Leonardtown, MD for a one single family residence fire.

According to Dfm. Messlia Decker, "The accidental fire was the result of an electrical malfunction involving a lamp within one of the children's bedrooms. A portion of the house was being rented by a separate family who was not home at the time of the fire."

Leonardtown, Bay District, Hollywood, Seventh District and Second District Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the house fire. It took fifty firefighters a total of fifteen minutes to control the fire.

The preliminary cause of the fire according to Decker was, "accidental as the result of an electrical malfunction involving a lamp."

The estimated total lost due to this fire resulted in $150,000 in damage to the structure and contents within the home.

"A total of five adults and three children were displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross," according to Decker.

Leonardtown, MD - On Sunday, Jan. 31 at 8:40 a.m. crews were dispatched to a house fire on Greenwells Hill Lane in Leonardtown. Units from Leonardtown, Second District, Hollywood, Bay District, Seventh District and EMS units from Leonardtown and Hollywood are on the scene. There are no reports of injuries.

Avoid the area until further notice.

UPDATE at 9:20 a.m.

Sources at the scene report the fire is under control. Both SMECO and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office are at the scene.
