We Need Some Rain

It sure seems that way for the whole state of Maryland and today was an example of what to keep expecting if we don't get some rain soon. The tones sounded for a brush fire on Loveville road off of Maryland Route 235 and dispatch advised units marking up on the air and responding that they would have a working fire. This was in Company 7's (Hollywood) first due with Company 2 (Mechanicsville) and I'm pretty sure 7's brush unit under the command of Captain Walter Taylor was first arriving and reported a rather large working fire with woods and trash burning. He requested additional companies to assist on the call. This brought companies 1 (Leonardtown), Company 3 and 9 (Bay District) to the scene

Hollywood made a good knock on the large fire with hand lines off their pumper-tanker and when other brush units arrived It was mostly mop-up with tankers supplying water. The fill site was set up by water supply 5 (Seventh District) in the industrial park on Maryland Route 235. Several trips were made by tankers 1, 2 and 9 to supply all the units at the scene. Overall command was Fire Chief 7 (Brady) and his operations officer was Ass't Chief Scully. You guys from the nuthouse (7) will correct me if I'm wrong i'm sure of that. lol

Now how did I get the scoop on this call you might ask. I was sitting at the station when they asked for our tanker (9) so I got in the cab (with help from the guys) and up the road I went with our Mechanic Jimmy Barnes behind the wheel. I didn't have to do anything but take pictures and report to all to be safe with any open air burning.

Remember what Smokey says "Only We Can Prevent Woods Fires"
