The Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department Regrets to announce the passing of a founding father, lifetime member and brother, John Raymond Lankford. Mr. Lankford became a member of Solomons in 1956. He served to the rank of President of the department from 1976-1987. In 1993 he served as President of the Southern Maryland Fireman's Association and was instrumental in the drafting and implementation of what today is known as the LOSAP retirement program. He continued his service to the citizens of Solomons and Calvert County until his passing early this morning with over 60 years of dedicated service.
