Company Runs Accident Involving HazMat

At 0953 hours, Engine 1, Engine 7, Engine 9, Tanker 7, Tanker 9, Tanker 6, Truck 1, Truck 3, Rescue Squad 6, HazMat 13, HazMat 18, EMS Station 19, and EMS Station 79 were dispatched to the area of 23120 Cedar Lane Road in Leonardtown, for a Motor Vehicle accident involving HazMat. Engine 73, Tanker 74, Chief 7, and Chief 7B responded at dispatch with 9 Volunteers on the incident.
Chief 7 was first to arrive, finding a Fuel Oil Truck on it's side with product leaking from the tank. Rescue Squad 1 and Engine 73 arrived on location next with the crew of Engine 73 deploying an attack line for protection. Rescue Squad 1 Officer established the Command and assigned Chief 7B as Operations. Tanker 74 arrived on the scene and was requested to supply Engine 73 as needed. Rescue Squad 6 arrived and both Squads stabilized the vehicle and contained the leaking fuel oil from spreading any further. Command requested the units not assigned to stage while crews worked to stop the leak.
The leak was stopped within minutes and the assigned was scaled back to the units from Station 1, Station 7, Station 6, and the HazMat units. The units from Station 7 remained on location until 1104 hours before returning to service. One patient was transported to the hospital for evaluation by Ambulance 196.
The HazMat units and the Fuel Oil Company handled the off loading of the product while the units from Station 1 remained on the scene. The scene was turned over to MDE and the County Police and Command was terminated at 1308 hours.
