By Leonardtown VFD July 11, 2017 On June 21, members of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary participated in the 125th Annual Maryland State Firemen’s Association Parade in Ocean City, MD. The members put in countless hours of preparation to showcase their pride in the department. All of the hard work paid off with the department receiving 15 trophies including the prestigious Chief Marvin Givens trophy which is presented to the department making the best overall appearance in the parade. This was the first time the department has won the award and the third year in a row that a St. Mary’s County Fire Department has won the award joining Hollywood and Mechanicsville. The department won the following trophies; Maryland Company Making Best Appearance and winner of the Chief Marvin Gibbons Memorial Award Fire Department Marching Unit with 10 or more personnel – 3rd Best Appearing Fire Engine 1500 GPM or higher – Honorable Mention, Engine 10 Brush Truck – Best Appearing Command Unit – 2nd Best Appearing Emergency Service Special Unit – Best Appearing, UTV1 Antique Apparatus 25 Years Old or Older still in Service – Best Appearing, Brush 1 Hand Drawn Antique – Best Appearing Maryland Fire Auxiliary in Uniform – Best Appearing Auxiliary In Uniform Coming The Longest Distance Fire Prevention Entry Making Best Appearance and winner of the Governor's Award Junior Miss Fire Prevention – Honorable Mention - Sara VanRyswick Honorable Mention - Madison Trossbach Little Miss Fire Prevention – Honorable Mention – Leila Scully Junior Fire Chief – Best Appearing – Nathan Raley We would also like to pass on our congratulations to the Easton Vol. Fire Department who took home the 2nd Best Appearing Company. The competition was stiff but the comradery being lined up next to each other in the parade was a lot of fun and brought out the best in both departments. |
