Leonardtown Volunteer Tom Mattingly featured in a new Fire Service Book

October 16, 2016—Emmitsburg, MD.

Thomas Mattingly Sr., a Volunteer Firefighter of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department is one of 50 fire service professionals to be profiled in a new book released on October 16, 2017 by Rizzoli New York (Welcome Books). American Firefighter is a series of written reflections of each subject, accompanied by a photograph by Paul Mobley, one of our nation’s most gifted and prominent portrait photographers. Mobley and his crew traversed the United States in 2016 to capture the images in book. Very few American professionals have had the honor of being presented in Mobley’s captivating manner.

Joining the department at age 16, he has continued to serve for over 54 years in many positions at Leonardtown and at regional and state association levels. From his early years and continuing today, his passion for public fire education, fire service training and his department’s history have been his greatest interest. While the volunteer fire service has changed greatly, he said his desire to serve has not.

A portion of the sales of each book will help support survivors of firefighters who have died in the line-of-duty by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017.

There are well over a million fire service professionals in the United States. Our Maryland fire service should be very proud that Tom was chosen as an example of this wonderful and amazing profession.

American Firefighter is available to be ordered on-line, or can be purchased at all major book sellers.

If applicable, the book should be cited as follows:
