At approximately 11:10 a.m. on Monday, December 25, 2023, emergency responders from Calvert and St. Mary’s County rushed to the 2900 block of Honey Cove Court in Prince Frederick, following reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, crews were met with a daunting sight—a two-story residence engulfed in flames. Swift action was taken as firefighters deployed multiple attack lines, entering the structure to combat the fire, which had spread throughout the second floor with extension to the first floor.

The incident prompted a massive response, with over 50 firefighters from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s County converging on the scene. A working fire dispatch and tanker task force were requested to assist in the operation.

Remarkably, the skilled and coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams led to the successful control of the blaze within approximately 35 minutes. Despite their heroic efforts, the unfortunate loss of one dog was reported on the scene, while the second dog was rescued and transported to a nearby veterinary hospital with serious injuries. Medical personnel administered oxygen to both animals.

A prompt 911 call from a vigilant next-door neighbor, who observed smoke billowing from the residence, initiated the emergency response. Fortunately, the occupants of the home were not present at the time of the incident and, therefore, remained unharmed.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office has taken charge of the investigation into the cause of the fire. Updates on the investigation will be disseminated as they become available.

The Prince Frederick and Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Departments have generously provided photos documenting the incident.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the affected residents and the dedicated emergency responders who worked tirelessly to contain the situation.
