It's one of our worst fears, people are injured and exposed to radiation. We have an individual who has suffered a compound fracture to the leg, and is contaminated by radiation. Fortunately, this was only a drill, it was for practice. Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad participated in this drill so we can be prepared in the event something like this happens and that we can have plans already in place just in case. Agencies participating in this drill included: St Mary’s County Emergency Management Agency, St Mary’s Health Department,, Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, MedStar St Mary’s Hospital, 911 Communications and the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.

Evaluation areas have been developed through reviews of past exercises, associated plans and procedures, the proposed exercise scenario, applicable FEMA guidance documents, and discussions with FEMA representatives.

All demonstrations were conducted in accordance with established plans and procedures, Evaluation areas that were demonstrated are as follows;

· Equipment and Supplies to Support Operation (1.e.1)

· Implementation of Emergency Worker Exposure Control (3.a.1)

· Transportation and Treatment of Contaminated Injured Individuals (6.d.1)

The preliminary results from FEMA did not identify any issues or concerns. Strengths included strong team work between all agencies.
