At 1324 hours Station 9, Station 83, Rescue Squad 7, Rescue Squad 3, EMS Station 38, EMS Station 83, and St. Mary's ALS were dispatched to the 46100 Block of Patuxent Beach Road in California for a Motor Vehicle Accident reported Serious. Rescue Squad 7 and Chief 7A responded with 5 Volunteers.
Units arrived on location to find 2 Vehicles, both on their Sides, and both with the drivers pinned inside the vehicles. It was determined by first arriving EMS personnel on the scene that one patient was deceased and the second patient was a priority 2 Category "B" Trauma. Rescue Squad 7 arrived on location and went to work with Rescue Squad 3 and Engine 91 to stabilize the vehicles and start extrication. A "Tie-Back" was set up from Rescue Squad 7 to the vehicle with the pinned occupant to fully stabilize the vehicle. Once the vehicle was stabilized, crews worked with the Hydraulic Rescue Tools to remove the roof and "Push" the dash to free the pinned occupant. The extrication took 30 minutes to complete and once the occupant was freed, she was turned over to EMS for transport.
The patient was transported by MSP Trooper 7 to Prince Georges County Trauma Center for treatment. Command was terminated and the assignment was scaled back to Engine 91 and Rescue Squad 7 to assist the Sheriff's Department and Medical Examiner with the second occupant. Hazmat 181 was also called to assist with absorbent due to both vehicles involved leaking fuel. Rescue Squad 7 and Engine 91 cleared the scene at 1546 hours after the removal of the second occupant.
Command was held by Solomon's Chief 3 and Chief 7A was the Extrication Group Supervisor.
