The Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad, Company 49, was honored to participate in the first annual “St. Mary’s County Blue Out.” The event was established to show our support as we recognized the bravery and courage of our state and county law enforcement officers. As stated by the 'Blue Out' organizers: “So many individuals and organizations made this event a success and we could never have lined the entire governmental center sidewalk with love and support if just one of you had stayed home." Everyone was asked to wear blue, create banners, sing, and carry balloons to show their support with the event taking place at the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack, at 23200 Leonard Hall Drive, in Leonardtown, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. The first annual informal event had no planned speeches or events but Jaymi Sterling presented a Governor’s Citation to our officers and their families from Governor Larry Hogan. “I'm proud to live in a community where an e-mail with an idea was sent out on July 18th to just a few people and can 12 days later line Route 245 with signs, Jeeps, flags, and most importantly LOVE!”. The event allowed the citizens of the community to show the officers solidarity, support, and respect. An overwhelming response was received for this gathering and the “Blue Out” organizers thanked everyone for coming out. “Thank you to everyone who came out today, supported our officers, and celebrated courage with us!”. We are HONORED to have the opportunity to stand with our friends and neighbors and show the dedicated women and men who protect our community that their citizens need and honor them. Each day they put their lives on the line to protect and preserve our way of life.
