On August 13, 2016 at 1317 hours Fire Boat 6 was dispatched to Company 14's first due for a boat fire in the Potomac River just south of the Harry Nice Bridge. Fire Boat 6 responded with 6 personnel and the Chief on-board. Engine 143 arrived at the power plant and established the Potomac River command with one vessel on fire approximately a mile off shore.

Fire Boat 6 and Colonial Beach Boat 1 arrived on the scene with a 48' yacht with smoke showing. The owners of the vessel had been safely removed by a close by good Samaritan and were all accounted for. Fire Boat 6 docked on the starboard side of the vessel and tied off. Crews advanced a 100' of a 1 1/2" attack line on-board the vessel to extinguish the fire. The vessel on fire was 3 levels. Boat 8 arrived on scene and assisted Boat 6 crew with opening up the vessel. Fire was found in the engine compartment that spread down the port and starboard sides of the boat hull. Once the fire was under controlled the vessel was towed into a pier at the power plant to give crews easier access to the boat for salvage and overhaul.

Colonial Beach Boat 1 and St. Mary's Boat 5 were on the scene assisting with bringing extra crews and water out from shore to assist due to the extreme heat that day. Tow Boat US from Cobb Island assisted with towing the vessel into shore.

Great Job by all!
