CALS was off to a busy start for the holiday weekend on Friday. Starting at 7am until 9pm CALS units ran 28 calls for service, double our normal call volume for a typical day. The day was filled with medical boxes, rescue boxes, and the county even had a house fire in the Chesapeake Beach area. CALS maintained three medics during the day and at times a fourth medic was available to handle to call volume. No calls requiring a medic went unanswered during the time period as units were responding up and down the county.
Some notable calls include two simultaneous Priority 1 unstable patients requiring immediate life-saving care by CALS medics en-route to the hospital. There were also two serious rescue boxes with confirmed entrapment and a host of other fall calls requiring advanced medical care to patients.
In total there were five medevac transports for various traumatic injuries to our local trauma centers. First a pediatric trauma was flown in stable condition after falling out of a tree from 15 feet. Second an adult female patient was flown in stable condition after a serious motor vehicle accident in which her car rolled over and she was entrapped for about 20 minutes. Third an adult male patient was flown in stable condition after a serious motor vehicle accident due to the severity of the crash and entrapment. Fourth an adult male with serious traumatic injuries after a fall from over 30 feet off a ladder. Lastly an adult male was flown in stable condition following a fall from a ladder from about 20 feet.
In all a very busy day for CALS!
