Solomons, MD - Having fun and a summer event does have its rewards. In the case of the Tiki Bar’s 2016 Luau event the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (SVRS&FD, Company 3) are the recipients of the money raised by the local business and its customers. The event was held Saturday, Aug. 20.
On Friday, Sept. 9 Terry Clarke and Bill Martin presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to Charlene Lankford, who accepted on behalf of Company 3. Charlene Lankford’s father, Raymond Lankford Sr., served with Company 3 for 60 years. Raymond Lankford Sr. passed away at age 90 in early August.
“It is an honor to be here today on behalf of my dad, who devoted 60 years to the SVRS&FD,” said Charlene Lankford. “He passed a little over 5 weeks ago but I know in my heart he is here in spirit in full dress uniform which he was so proud of. He was born on the island 90 years ago and loved the Solomons community. His legacy will live on.”
Of the Company 3 volunteers, Charlene Lankford declared, “these men and women go above and beyond their duties to serve and protect our community.”
