LA PLATA, Md. (WUSA) -- Sunday night, family members were injured during a house fire in La Plata.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, a juvenile and two adults were injured when a fire broke out at a home in the 12000 block of Provident Drive shortly before 7 p.m. Authorities say the home owners had returned from having dinner out when they found the back of their house on fire. As they tried to put out the fire and find their pets, they received smoke inhalation and minor burns.
A child and an adult were treated and released for smoke inhalation at Civista Medical Center. Another adult was airlifted to Washington Hospital Center for burns to the hands and smoke inhalation.
Firefighters found fire venting though the entire roof and were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes, says the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities know that the fire started in the rear wooden deck area of the house.
Authorities say there is an estimated total damage loss of $400,000.
The family has been displaced and family members are helping them.
