On July 1, 2017 at 1954 hours Company 6 along with other mutual aid departments were dispatched for a structure fire in the area of the 13000 block of River Road.
Engine 61 responded with 4 personnel, Tanker 6 with 2 personnel, Ambulance 68 and Chief 6 with Command Unit 6.
Chief 6 arrived on the scene with 2 barn structures fully involved with exposure and fire impingement to a third structure. Building 1 was a 50'x150' barn with farm equipment, building 2 was a 25'x50' livestock building and the third building was a 25'x30' building which housed diesel fuel and other farm chemicals. Chief 6 established the River Road Command.
Engine 143 arrived with Chief 14 on board and were given instructions to protect the exposure building. Engine 61 picked up 14's line and took Operations. Tanker 6 set up a water supply basin and was given the Water Supply group and worked with the Tankers to shuttle water. Boat 6 and St. Mary's boat 5 were requested to assist with water supply.
Engine 61 and Engine 143 worked hard to protect the exposure building as well as getting a knock on the bulk of the fire. Truck 28 arrived on scene and assisted with ladder pipe operations and overhaul. Squad 10 arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul and removal of the tin roof material.
Once all the fire and hot spots were extinguished command utilized Foam Tanker 10 to apply a foam blanket over the remains of the two structures to protect from any rekindle.
Good job by all units dispatched and working on the scene.
There was a total of 54 Volunteer Firefighters on scene working hard to extinguish the fire
