PFVFD Junior Firefighter Places First In Regional Skills USA Competition

Congratulations to PFVFD Junior Firefighter Jacob Bowie who placed first in the Regional Skills USA competition. Bowie was up against students from St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties. The students competed at Bay District Volunteer Fire Department in Southern Maryland.

Within a 24 hour period all participants completed a number of drills including:
hoisting tools, raising ladders and ropes
throwing a 14-foot ladder
two-minute drills, including forcible entry
hose and dummy drag
completing a CPAT by running up stairs
written exam

For the second year in a row, Calvert County took home first place. On April 13, 2019, Bowie is planning to represent Calvert in the Skills USA State Competition in Millersville, MD.

“Everyone who was there worked hard and deserved to win. I am honored to represent Calvert County in Skills USA states,” Bowie says.

Our membership couldn’t be more proud of Bowie’s accomplishments – Good luck at the next level!
