By Bay District Volunteers
August 10, 2019

On August 10 at 05:34 Bay District and surrounding companies were dispatched to Daugherty Court in the Hickory Hills subdivision for a working house fire, the address was then updated to 45514 Finnea Way. Chief 3B (B. Ticson) arrived one minute after dispatch reporting a working house fire in a two story home, fire showing from the garage and second floor and report of a person trapped. With this information he immediately requested the second alarm be sounded. Engine 91 was first arriving and began the fire attack. Engine 32 & & Engine 132 arrived and assisted. Crews made their way inside to perform a search for the reporting missing occupant, while attempting to go up the stairs to the second story one firefighter (Bay District Member) fell through the steps into the basement. A mayday was declared, and crews made their way to the basement and brought the firefighter out to safety. The fighter was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released. After the Mayday was cleared and an accountability check was performed the crews returned to search the home, no occupants were found, later into the incident it was determined the missing occupant had previously left the home and was safe in Hollywood. Crews worked for over four hours to extinguish the fire and perform overhaul. Maryland State Fire Marshal was requested to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire. Two additional firefighters suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment on the scene.
