Passing of Member James H. "Jay" Hills

he Officers and Members of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. sadly announce the passing of member James H. “Jay” Hills on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Jay joined the department in February 1991. Though he was inactive at the time of his passing, Jay leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication to the Department and the citizens of St. Mary’s County.

Jay accumulated 20 years of service, during which time he was certified as a Firefighter III by the Maryland Fire Service Personnel Qualifications Board. Over the years, he held the positions of Fire Captain, Fire Engineer, and served as a member of the Board of Directors. Additionally, he also served on several committees and projects.

Please keep Jay’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

A Fire Department funeral is being planned at this time. Please remain attentive for further details.
