LaVerne Stewart Memorial EMS Excellence/Awareness Award
This prestigious award is presented annually at the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association convention. It is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional effort in promoting EMS (Emergency Medical Services) excellence and awareness within their community or county. The focus of the award is on individual achievements, recognizing leadership and commitment to advancing EMS standards and public awareness. Unlike team or department recognitions, this award celebrates personal dedication, showcasing how one person's work can make a significant impact on the health and safety of their community.
-
W. David Gott Memorial Fire Prevention Award
The W. David Gott Memorial Award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to fire prevention efforts within their community or county. Like the EMS Excellence Award, this recognition is reserved for individual achievements rather than collective department efforts. The intent is to shine a spotlight on fire prevention leadership, acknowledging the proactive measures and educational activities that have been spearheaded by the award recipient. It highlights the recipient's role in ensuring fire safety awareness and promoting preventative practices, thereby safeguarding lives and property.
-
Frank R. Cotrufo Jr. Memorial Safety Award
The Frank R. Cotrufo Jr. Memorial Safety Award is bestowed upon members of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association who have made significant contributions to safety within their fire department or community. Recipients must be in good standing within the association, and their accomplishments must be thoroughly documented, including dates of activities, photographs, and any media coverage. The award committee evaluates each nominee's portfolio, which should showcase a year's worth of safety activities. The most comprehensive and impactful entry is selected as the winner, ensuring that those who go above and beyond in fostering a culture of safety are appropriately recognized.
-
Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic Lifesaving Award
This award recognizes the heroic efforts of firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who have been involved in lifesaving actions at an emergency scene. It is presented to members of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association, and nominations are submitted by the individual's respective fire department, rescue squad, or ALS (Advanced Life Support) unit. The award includes a Lifesaving uniform ribbon, which is presented at the association's annual convention banquet. This honor is a testament to the life-or-death decisions and actions that these individuals make in the line of duty, celebrating their courage and skill in saving lives.
-
Unit Citation
The Unit Citation is awarded to groups of two or more individuals who have worked together to achieve a common goal, either through a single, exceptional performance or through continued, professional dedication to their duties. This award recognizes teamwork and collaboration, emphasizing the collective effort required in emergency services. Whether for a specific, high-quality performance or sustained commitment, the Unit Citation acknowledges the power of united efforts in accomplishing critical missions.
These awards showcase a deep appreciation for individual and collective contributions to fire prevention, emergency medical services, safety, and lifesaving efforts, reinforcing the values of leadership, professionalism, and dedication within the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association.
