Mary Jane Scully Fire Prevention Award
Presented annually at the LA-SMVFA Installation of Officers
In Memory
The Mary Jane Scully Fire Prevention Award is a heartfelt tribute to a remarkable woman whose dedication to the Volunteer Fire Service was both profound and inspiring. Mary Jane Scully, my beloved grandmother, passed away suddenly, leaving a void in our hearts. Yet, amidst the sorrow, our family finds solace in celebrating her lifelong passion for fire prevention and safety—a passion she shared so eagerly with both her family and her Fire Service family.
Reflecting on Grandma's life in the days following her passing, I was reminded of her unwavering commitment not only to us, her family, but also to her extended family within the Fire Service. Her devotion went beyond the usual call of duty; she truly found joy in teaching, encouraging, and promoting the principles of Fire Prevention. This was more than just a role for her; it was a vocation, a mission to protect and educate, which she fulfilled with unmatched dedication over her impressive 58 years of service.
In recognition of her extraordinary contributions and to honor her legacy, we have established the Mary Jane Scully Fire Prevention Award. This award serves not only as a testament to her commitment and love for fire safety but also as a lasting tribute to her tireless efforts in advocating for fire prevention within the community. It is our hope that through this award, we can continue her mission of promoting safety, educating the public, and encouraging future generations to prioritize fire prevention, just as she did so passionately throughout her life.
Mary Jane Scully’s spirit and dedication will forever remain a guiding light for all who are part of this essential and noble cause.
