Ways to Serve

Every company needs more than firefighters. Find the role that fits your skills, schedule, and interests.

Structural & Wildland Firefighting

Respond to structure fires, vehicle fires, and brush/wildland calls. Full training and protective gear are provided. No firefighting experience is required to start.

Emergency Medical Services

Serve as an EMT, paramedic, or ambulance crew member, responding to medical emergencies alongside your local fire and rescue company.

Technical & Water Rescue

Several companies support water rescue, dive, and other technical rescue teams for the region's rivers, creeks, and the Chesapeake Bay.

Administrative & Support

Not everyone rides the truck. Companies need help with fundraising, administration, apparatus maintenance, fire prevention, and public education.

Auxiliary & Ladies Auxiliary

Support members and their families through fundraising, meals for crews on long calls, and community outreach, the backbone of many local companies.

How to Join

The exact process, training requirements, and age minimums vary by company. Your local company can walk you through the specifics.
